CrossTie 1 - The Poor in Spirit
Saturday Oct 02, 2010
Saturday Oct 02, 2010
In the first Beatitude Jesus is clear: staying close to our need for God and others allows us to enjoy belonging in His kingdom. Powerless is how we come to God, and from beginning to end we are helpless apart from Him. Ironically, He is, in a way, powerless when it comes to us. As much as He wants us, He waits for us to want Him. We bring our brokenness to the cross where Jesus hung, broken and bruised. Through brokenness we encounter grace.

God loves us! In the opening lines of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives His plan for our transformation through the Beatitudes. As the cross-ties of a railroad track hold the two rails securely in line, the Beatitudes show us how to bring our thoughts, attitudes and behaviors into line with the character of Christ. As this occurs, our lives move forward with purpose and power.
